New Zealand sits on the boundary of the Pacific and Australian tectonic plates. Active volcanoes are only located on the North Island, and offshore islands. New Zealand Antarctic territory includes volcanoes at Balleny Islands, Mt Erebus, and Mt Melbourne.
A chain of volcanoes are located in the Kermadec Islands, stretching northward from New zealand towards Tonga.
