The Kermadec Islands are a little known region of the Pacific Ring of Fire located between New Zealand and Fiji.
The Kermadec region consists of the Havre trough, Kermadec arc, and backarc system. It is an example of an island arc plate boundary. The concept of backarc basin was initially developed from studies of the Kermadec region.
