Ijen Volcano, Indonesia
Unrest continues at Ijen volcano, Indonesia. Observations at the lake on 17th December showed the lake had changed colour from light-green to white. A strong smell of sulphur was present at the lake and required observers to wear gas mask. On 18th December 2011 the alert status was raised further from level 2 to level 3 (out of a maximum 4). The exclusion zone radius has been increased to 1.5 km.

Zubair Volcano, Yemen
A possible eruption occurred at Zubair volcano on 19th December 2011. Fishermen from Salif port city in the west of Yemen reported seeing an eruption with red lava rising to a height of 30 m. This was the first eruption the fisherman can recall from the area. Satellite images showed raised sulphur dioxide emissions close to the volcano on 20th December.

Ijen Volcano, Indonesia
Increased seismicity has been recorded at Ijen volcano, Indonesia. Between 8-13 December 2011 harmonic tremor and 77 shallow volcanic earthquakes were recorded at the volcano. Seismicity began to increase in October 2011 and continued high levels of shallow volcanic earthquakes have continued at the volcano. Between 1-13 December visual observations showed brown-white emissions with a weak pressure rising 50-200 m above the crater. On 15th December 2011 the alert status at Ijen volcano was raised to level 2 (out of a maximum 4). A 1 km exclusion zone has been placed around the crater. This affects both visitors and sulphur miners.

Sorik Marapi Volcano, Indonesia
Sorik Marapi volcano in Sumatra, Indonesia has been raised to level 2 alert (out of a maximum 4). On 12th December there were 43 volcanic earthquakes measured at the volcano. A 1.5 radius exclusion zone has been placed around the volcano.

Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii
A lava flow has reached the old Royal Gardens subdivision and is burning forest in a kipuka. Lava is also advancing across the coastal plain towards the ocean. At the summit of Kilauea volcano there is a lava lake in a vent 75 m below the floor of Halemaumau crater. On the east rift zone lava periodically appears in Pu'u O'o crater.

Sundoro Volcano, Indonesia
Sundoro volcano in central Java was raised to level 2 alert on 6th December 2011 after an increase in seismicity. The temperature of fumaroles at the summit increased from 75 deg C on 26th November to 95 deg C on 2nd December. On 2nd December a plume from the summit rose several tens of metres above the rim of the crater. The number of volcanic earthquakes were measured as 3 in October, 13 in November and 20 between 1-4 December. A 2 km exclusion zone has been placed around the volcano. The last eruption of Sundoro volcano occurred in 1971.

Gamalama Volcano, Indonesia
Gamalama volcano in Indonesia erupted at 11 pm local time on 4th December 2011. The eruption deposited ash over the Ternate.
On 4th December 47 shallow volcanic earthquakes were recorded at the volcano compared to 1 shallow earthquake on 3rd December.

Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii
A lava flow is advancing towards the old Royal Gardens subdivision at Kilauea volcano in Hawaii. The flow is moving alongside a kipuka and has started forest fires. The lava is moving west of the February 2010 flow and is close to the last inhabited house in the subdivision.
