White Island Volcano, New Zealand

A change in activity has been recorded at White Island volcano, New Zealand. The crater lake is drying out and this has previously been followed by ash eruptions. Small explosions of rock have occurred from the area near the crater lake. Intermittent tremor began this morning. There is an increased hazard for visitors at the volcano. White Island volcano remains at level 1 alert, on an increasing scale of 0-5.

Rabaul Volcano, Papua New Guinea

Eruptions continue at Rabaul volcano, Papua New Guinea. Ash emissions from Tavurvur crater reached 6000 ft altitude on 24th January 2013.

Rabaul Volcano, Papua New Guinea

Tavurvur crater at Rabaul volcano erupted on the evening of 20th January 2013. Residents heard roaring and rumbling noises from the crater. Ash reached altitude of 5000 ft and drifted southeast. Tokua airport was closed, causing the suspension of flights until further notice.

White Island Volcano, New Zealand

Hydrothermal activity was reported at a small hot lake at White Island volcano, New Zealand, on 21st January 2013. It was the strongest activity at the volcano for years. Elevated levels of volcanic tremor were recorded. Unrest is increasing at the volcano and there is a hazard for visitors.

Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii

A swarm of small earthquakes has occurred at Kilauea volcano, Hawaii between 13-17 January 2013. The earthquakes occurred along a line joining the summit crater, Halemaumau, and down chain of craters road towards Mauna Ulu turnoff. The earthquakes have not been associated with any significant changes in the eruption at Kilauea.

Manam Volcano, Papua New Guinea

A large eruption occurred at Manam volcano, Papua New Guinea on 12th January 2013. Pilot reports and satellite images indicated ash emissions reached 45,000 ft altitude. The eruption is posing an aviation hazard for flights between Australia and Asia. The aviation alert has been raised to the highest level RED.

Seulawah Agam Volcano, Indonesia

Seulawah Agam volcano, Sumatra, Indonesia was raised to level 3 alert on 3rd January 2013, after an increase in seismic activity. A new solfatara was located near Heutsz crater which was the site of the last eruption in 1839.

Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii

Today, 3 January 2013 marks the 30th anniversary of the beginning of the current eruption at Kilauea volcano, Hawaii. This is a remarkable eruption, and has been the longest eruption on the east rift zone in recorded history. The eruption has been continuous for so long that we have come to take it for granted. However the eruption will come to an end sometime. Currently the volcano is erupting at the summit and east rift zone. Lava continues to enter the ocean at several locations.

Kizimen Volcano, Kamchatka, Russia

Kizimen volcano, Kamchatka, was raised to orange alert on 31 December 2012 after an increase in seismicity. In the previous 24 hours 357 earthquakes were recorded under the volcano. A crater glow was present and lava on the slopes.

Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii

Eruptions continue at two locations at Kilauea volcano, Hawaii. An active lava lake is located at the summit in Halemaumau crater. On the east rift zone lava is erupting from a location southeast of Pu'u O'o crater and flowing to the coast. On the pali and coast lava flow is about 1 km wide and enters the ocean at several locations.
