Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii
Incandescence is visible at night at Halema`uma`u crater at Kilauea summit. Small amounts of lava are being emitted from the vent, and ash emissions are visible during the day. On March 29 sulphur dioxide levels at the summit were 730 tonnes/day, compared to background levels of 150-200 tonnes/day. Sulphur dioxide emission rate increases from this level when ash emissions occur at the vent.

Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii
Eruptions continue at two locations at Kilauea volcano in Hawaii. Ash emissions are occurring from a 30 m wide vent at Halema`uma`u crater at Kilauea summit. Ashfall has deposited on Highway 11 and as far away as south point. Lava from Pu`u `O`o vent on the east rift zone is flowing through Royal Gardens subdivision and entering the sea at Waikupanaha and Ki ocean entries.

Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii
Ash emissions, and a small amount of lava has been emitted from a vent at Halema`uma`u crater, Kilauea volcano. This follows an explosion which occurred at the crater on the 19th March. The current explosive activity at the summit of Kilauea is the first in 84 years. Sulfur dioxide emissions are above background levels in the summit area. Crater Rim Drive remains closed between Kilauea Military Camp and Chain of Craters Road, due to high gas emissions and the possibility of further explosions. Lava continues to enter the sea at two locations (Waikupanaha and Ki) at Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii.

Kunlun Volcano, Tibet, China
A major earthquake, magnitude 7.2, hit Kunlun volcano region in Tibet this morning at 0633 hr local time. Two magnitude 5 aftershocks occurred within 30 minutes. The epicentre was located 100 km east of Kunlun volcano, which produced China's most recent eruption in 1951. Earthquakes of this magnitude are able to disrupt nearby volcanoes. The earthquake damaged more that 2000 houses. The Kunlun Fault system produced a magnitude 8.1 earthquake in November 2001.

Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii
An explosive eruption occurred on 19th March, local time, at Halema`uma`u Crater at the summit of Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii. This is the first explosive eruption in the summit crater since 1924. The explosion occurred at the location of the new gas vent which formed last week. The eruption was probably phreatic, and created a crater 30 m in diameter. Debris was thrown as far as Crater Rim Drive near Halema`uma`u parking area 350 m away. Crater Rim Drive has been closed recently due to high level of gas emission in the area. The explosion occurred 3 miles from the town of Volcano with a population of 2200.

Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii
A new gas vent has opened in Halema`uma`u crater at the summit of Kilauea volcano in Hawaii. This is the first summit activity in 25 years at the volcano. The vent shows an orange glow at night, and has doubled the already high sulphur dioxide emissions at the summit. Along the east rift zone, lava has reached the sea at two locations - Waikupanaha, and a location 400 m east.

Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii
Lava from Kilauea volcano in Hawaii has destroyed three unoccupied houses in the Royal Gardens subdivision. The subdivision was mostly abandoned in the 1990's due to lava flows, and now only five houses remain. Channel-fed lava flows have formed within the subdivision. Lava flowing through vegetation is causing an explosion risk. Lava is pooling on the coastal flat.
