The Caribbean tectonic plate is mainly oceanic and is located off the east coast of central America.
The northern boundary with the North American plate is transform or strike-slip. The eastern boundary is a subduction zone. The southern boundary is complex and is partly the result of transform faulting, thrust faulting and subduction.
