The Yemen Trap Series is located on the plateau of Yemen. It is one of the largest outcrops on the Ethiopian-Yemenitic plateau.
The series is related to tectonics in the Afro-Arabian plate.
The first phase of activity occurred between 26-30 Ma and produced alkaline to transitional basalts with some ryholite iginimbrites.
The second phase of activity between 19-23 Ma, rhyolites and some transitional basalts were erupted in the south and southwest of the area.
