Revillagigedo Islands, Mexico

summit elevation 1050 m
shield volcano
On 29th January 1993 underwater observations were made of the volcano by divers. Steam and hot, dark-coloured rocks broke
surface of the ocean. Some of the rocks floated and some sank. Echo-sounding also revealed a sharp rise in ocean-floor topography below the most active area.
A submarine eruption occurred at the volcano in 1993-94, 3km west of the island.
