Shiretoko-Iwo-zan Volcano is located at the NE tip of Hokkaido on the Shiretoko Peninsula. Shiretoko Peninsula in NE Hokkaido was protected as a World Heritage Site in 2005.
The volcano is noted for eruptions of molten sulphur in 1936 and 1889.
