Île de la Possession is the middle of the Crozet Islands, 3000 km SE of Cape Town, South Africa. The island is 14 x 19 km wide, and contains fractures, scoria cones and lava flows. The volcano summit is Pic du Mascarin.
The most recent eruptions occurred at Mont Branca cone on the western flank, in the past few hundred years.
