Panjang Island is located 1.7 km east of Anak krakatau volcano in the Indonesia.
The island is heavily vegetated and has a summit elevation of 140 m. The island is covered with deposits of the 1883 eruption. Pre-1883 lava is exposed on the west and south coast of the island.
The island lacks the high cliffs which are present on Sertung and Rakata. The east coast is fringed by a low sandy terrace, produced from deposition from ravines.
