Novarupta volcano is located in Katmai National Park. The volcano was the site of the largest eruption of the 20th century.
The eruption ejected 12 cubic km of lava.
The eruption formed an 800 m high lava dome. The eruption caused drainage of lava from under Katmai volcano 10 km east, and created a 3 x 4 km wide caldera.
Broken Mountain and Baked Mountain were destroyed in the eruption.
