Bulusan volcano erupted ash today to an altitude of 1000 m above the crater. Ash from the 11:56 a.m. explosion drifted north-northwest. The activity was accompanied by audible rumblings and was reflected in the seismograms as an explosion-type earthquake that lasted for 35 minutes. Bulusan volcano reactivated in March this year after being dormant for 11 years.

Karymsky Volcano (Russia)

Karymsky volcano is erupting ash to an altitude of 1.5 km. A dispersed plume of ash from the volcano stretched 100 kilometres southeast of the volcano. The volcano poses no threat to nearby settlements, but scientists have recommended people not approach it. There is some hazard to aircraft, and flights have been warned of the risk. On Wednesday, more than 450 earthquakes were recorded near the volcano. Karymsky is the most active volcano on the Kamchatka peninsula and has been erupting for 10 years.

Rabaul Volcano (Papua New Guinea)

An ash explosion to 10,000 ft elevation occurred at Rabaul volcano today at 0530 hr (local time). The eruption was at Turvurvur crater, which produced the large eruption earlier in the month.

Piton de la Fournaise Volcano (Reunion)

The eruption which began at Dolomieu crater on 30th August continues. Eruptive activity is limited to a 20 m high cone which formed on 9th October. On 10th October, there was snow fall on the volcano. Falls of snow in the tropics occur about once every five years on Reunion Island. The last significant snow fall at the volcano was in August 2003.

Mt Etna Volcano (Italy)

Explosive activity has resumed at the summit of Mt Etna volcano in Italy. On the morning of 20th October, black ash was emitted from SE crater. Explosions from the crater were heard from Sapienza. Explosions only lasted a few hours. Lava flows have branched into two arms and flow into Valle del Bove.

Bulusan Volcano (Philippines)

On Thursday, Bulusan volcano erupted ash for the second time this month. The eruption occurred at 6:44 pm (local time), and ash drifted SW towards Irosin. There is a 4 km permanent danger zone around the volcano. Ash emissions began in March this year. Historical eruptions at the volcano have mainly been phreatic.

Barren Island Volcano (India)

Ash emissions were reported at Barren Island Volcano on 20th October at 0715 hr (UT). Ash reached 2000 ft altitude. Barren Island volcano has been erupting regularly since May 2005.

Rabaul Volcano (Papua New Guinea)

Two mild vulcanian eruptions occurred at Rabaul volcano today at 1200 and 1320 hr, local time. The state of emergency has been lifted in East New Britain Province after a decrease in volcanic activity. Yesterday, a tectonic earthquake, magnitude 6.8,  hit New Britain Island. The earthquake was not related to eruptions at Rabaul.

Lava flow continues for the fourth day from the base of SE crater into Valle del Bove. Ground cracks are visible near the eruption vent.

Mt Etna Volcano (Italy)

A new lava flow has begun at Mt Etna volcano in Sicily. The seventh eruptive event since July commenced just after midnight on 13th October. An effusive vent opened at the base of SE crater, and lava flowed into Valle del Bove. Lava descended to elevation of 2600 m above sea level. There was no associated explosive activity at the summit craters.

Rabaul Volcano (Papua New Guinea)

A short new eruption occurred at Rabaul volcano today (11th October 2006) at 10 am local time. Ash was emitted to 25,000 ft elevation and drifted NW. Stratospheric cloud continues to dissipate over the area and is not currently affecting aviation. Small explosions and continuous low level emissions are occurring at the volcano.

Bulusan Volcano (Philippines)

Bulusan volcano has emitted ash again today after renewed activity yesterday. The towns of Irosin and Bulusan, and at least eight villages received 5mm of ashfall. Alert level 1 remains at the volcano (highest level 5).

Rabaul Volcano (Papua New Guinea)

Low level volcanic activity continues at Rabaul volcano. Seismicity is at background levels and ground deformation rates are low. Thin to moderate pink-white haze emissions continue to be produced, rising to less than 1000 m and are being blown to the north. There are still explosions at the volcano. Seismometers did not record any unusual activity prior to the eruption. The volcanic vent was open and magma was able to rise silently to the surface. Today, aircraft have not observed ash below 35,000 ft. There was significant ashfall around Kokopo and Tokua airport on Sunday. Flights to Rabaul remain suspended.  About 2,000 residents (90 per cent of the local population) have been evacuated from areas experiencing heavy ash falls.

Bulusan volcano erupted ash today at 5:15 pm local time, from an area on the SW side of the volcano. The renewed eruptions came after 4 months of relative quiet at the volcano.There were nine eruptions today, sending ash to 3 km high which drifted across the towns of Casiguran, Irosin, and Bulan. There were no warnings of the eruptions because the area has been without power sine the passage of typhoon Milenyo. There is a 4 km permanent danger zone around the volcano.

Volcanic activity continues to decline at Rabaul volcano in Papua New Guinea. Hazy emissions are being blown north. Saturday's eruption is considered larger than in 1994, when Rabaul town was partially destroyed, however favourable winds this time spared the town.

Low level activity continues at Rabaul volcano after a large eruption yesterday. Winds have dispersed ash 800 km from eruption site. Ash emissions are currently below 10,000 ft, but high level ash is expected to persist as far as Papua New Guinea/Indonesia border. Lava flows from Tavurvur cone have reached the sea. House windows in Rabaul were shattered by the eruption. There are no reported injuries, and many residents have evacuated from the town and surrounding areas.

Ruapehu Volcano (New Zealand)

A small hydrothermal eruption occurred at Ruapehu volcano on Wednesday evening 4th October at 10:30 pm (local time). The water level in the summit crater lake has risen by 1 m, and water temperature increased from 15°C to 22.5°C. Seismic activity remains above background levels.

Rabaul Volcano (Papua New Guinea)

A large eruption occurred at Rabaul volcano in Papua New Guinea on Saturday 7th October. Ash was emitted to 60,000 ft. The eruption began at 0845 hr local time, at Tavurvur crater, and was accompanied by loud noises and volcanic lightning. Ash emissions reduced visibility and blocked out sunlight.

Soufriere Hills Volcano (Montserrat)

Dome growth is continuing at Soufriere Hills volcano on Montserrat. Pyroclastic flows have been reported over the past week. Ash plume is visible on satellite images up to 250 km from the volcano.
