Naruko/Narugo volcano consists of a 7 x 5.5 km caldera NW of Sendai City.
Lake Katanuma fills part of the caldera and is strongly acidic.
The highest lava dome, Oga-dake, is only 470 m above sea level.

2011 Great Earthquake
Tthe Great 2011 Earthquake (magnitude 8.9) occurred 150 km ESE of the volcano on 11th March 2011. Narugo is the closest active volcano to the earthquake epicentre.
