Megata volcano in located NW of Akita city in northern Honshu. The volcano consists of three Maars on the Oga Peninsula: Ichinomegata (600 m diameter), Ninomegata, Sannomegata. Toga maar formed 450,000 years ago and is breached by the sea on the western side.

It is hypothesised that host magma of Ichinomegata is a product of mixing of three magmas: primitive basalt, slightly differentiated basalt and dacite.

The most recent eruptions occurred less than 4000 years ago.
