Volcanic Lakes are the sites of some of the world's most beautiful scenery. They provide a unique way to predict eruptions because of their close contact with magmatic systems.
Eruptions through crater lakes or shallow seawater (subaqueous eruptions), present hazards from hydromagmatic explosions, such as base surges, lahars, and tsunamis. Subaqueous eruptions represent only 8% of all recorded eruptions but have produced about 20% of all fatalities associated with volcanic activity in historical time.
