Shield volcano

Karaca Dag Volcano is located in easternl Turkey, 90 km from the border with Syria. The volcano contains fissures, craters and lava flows. The last eruptions may have occurred withing the past few thousand years.

Karaca Dag is a basaltic shield volcano. The volcano is fed by N- S trending fissures parallel to nearby Akcakale Graben. Satellite images show lava flows on the eastern flank may be a few thousand years old.
