John Frum Movement is an example of a Melanesian contact culture. It is not a cult, nor about cargo, despite popular belief from outsiders. The movement is about a return to custom.
John Frum movement began in the early 1930's, and is not a cargo cult related to World War II as is regularly stated.
The centre of John Frum is at two villages on the NE side of Yasur volcano. After the draining of Lake Siwi the movement split into two factions.
