Illiniza volcano is located 55 km southwest of Quito, Ecuador.
The volcano consists of two snow covered peaks - Illiniza Sur (5248 m) and Illiniza Norte (5126 m).

Iliniza Norte is a remnant of the main volcanic edifice, and younger Iliniza Sur is an andesitic-dacitic stratovolcano surrounded by thick pyroclastic flow deposits.
