Subglacial volcano
Hofsjökull volcano is located in central Iceland under Hofsjökull icecap. The ice cap covers an area of 923 sq km and has a volume of 208 cubic km. The volcano contains a 11 km x 7 km, 600 m deep caldera. Lava flows have originated from flank fissures in the north and east of the icecap.
