Darwin volcano is located in the northern end of Isabela Island. It contains a 5 km wide 200 m deep summit caldera.

The volcano was named after the naturalist Charles Darwin who sailed to the islands in 1835. Darwin's ship the Beagle anchored at Tagus Cove, on the side of Tagus tuff cone.

Young lava flows reach the coast in the east and west.
