A cryptodome is a mound caused by the accumulation of viscous magma just beneath the surface.

Examples of cryptodomes
Mt Usu (Japan) 1910. It was given the name Meiiji Sin-zan
Mt Usu (Japan) 1943. Called Showa Sin-zan.
Mt St Helens (USA) 1980
