Crater Mountain is located in the highlands of New Guinea. Crater mountain is part of the Crater Mountain Wildlife Management Area, a 2700 sq km of spectacular scenery and traditional villages. Crater Mountain volcano comprises a chain of peaks over 3000m elevation, and is severely eroded.
There are several small cones, lava domes, and flows, which may have erupted in the past 10,000 years.
