Chinameca volcano is located south of Chinameca city, El Salvador. Laguna Seca el Pacayal summit caldera has a diameter of 1.3 km. The volcano is located 5 km NW from San Miguel volcano.
Solfatara and geothermal activity are found at the volcano.
1951 Earthquake
On 6th May 1951 two earthquakes measuring 5.9 and 6.0, followed by a
magnitude 5.5, twenty one hours lake occurred near the town of
Jucuapa. The town is located at the NW base of Chinameca volcano.
The earthquakes which were very shallow, killed between 400 and 1000
people, and left 25,000 homeless.
No recent eruptions.
