Aracar volcano is located in NW Argentina, close to the border with Chile. The volcano has a well-preserved summit crater, and the flanks are heavily eroded. Lava flows are visible at the base of the 10 km diameter cone.
Eruption in 1993
On 28th March 1993 an ash plume was observed rising 2000 m above the summit.
