submarine volcano

Ahyi seamount is a large conical submarine volcano that rises to within 137 m of the sea surface about 18 km SE of the island of Farallon de Pajaros. Most of the recent historical activity in this area is based on acoustic detection methods from great distances.

2014 eruptions
In April-May 2014, Ahyi volcano erupted for 2 weeks. Explosions heard by scuba divers and onboard nearby ships. The eruptions were detected hydrophones across the Pacific at distances of up to 12,000 km.

2001 Eruptions
Explosive submarine eruptions occurred at Ahyi Volcano on 24th April 2001.

1979 Eruptions
Upwelling of sulfur-bearing water was observed by fisherman in 1979, at a location 15 km SE of Farallon de Pajaros Island.
