West New Britain Province is the most
volcanically active regions of Papua New Guinea.
It is a volcanic arc with many active
volcanoes including:
Langila, Garbuna, Pago, Karai, Hargy,
and Bamus.
The administrative centre is located
in Kimbe an serviced by Hoskins airport.
The land area of the province is 25,000
sq km.
The province is the largest producer
of palm oil in the country and a major supplyer of timber.
There are limited roads in the area
and thickly forested hills inland.
The province is subjected to periodic
earthquakes.
