Pu`ulena
Crater - John Seach
Lower East Rift Zone - Kilauea Volcano
Pu`ulena Crater is located 100 m east
of Leilani Estates subdivision.
It is composed of three pit craters
and is 700 m long, 25 m wide, and about 100 m deep.
The collapse was caused by phreatic
explosions 450 to 700 years ago.
Occasionally steam can be seen emitting
from the crater.
Two nearby pit craters are associated
with this eruption - Kahuwai Crater and Pawai Crater.
