Guyots

Guyots are drowned volcanic islands.
After volcanic activity ceases the
islands become submerged due to subsidence of the oceanic lithosphere.
The Afar depression in Ethiopia contains
the only above sea guyots.
These were exposed as the red sea
became split and the Afar region drained.
