Fragmentation
- John Seach
Fragmentation
is a process whereby bursting bubbles tear apart magma as it reaches the
surface.
At a depth
of 10 km gas filled magma is at a pressure of 3000 atmospheres.
Therefore a
large pressure drop occurs as the magma rises towards the surface through
the conduits.
