Two-Phase
Flow Regimes - John Seach
Four types
of magma eruption are identified.
Bubbly Flow |
Small volume
of gas are carried along with the magma. Example is lava extruding from
a vent. |
Slug Flow |
Gas pockets
form in the magma. Example is strombolian eruptions where gas pockets burst
at the top of the conduit. |
Annular Flow |
A central gas
core is surrounded by a thick film of liquid on the conduit walls. Example
is a lava fountain. |
Dispersed flow |
This results
when magma fragments are carried in a gas phase.
Example is
plinian eruptions and pyroclastic flows. |
