Fergusson Island is the largest in the D’Entrecasteaux group. There are three geothermal areas on the island. Iamelele contains lava domes and geothermal areas, with boiling springs, mud pools, and fumaroles. The thermal area is made up of at least six solfatara trending in a NNW direction for 4.5 miles. Lamonai is located on the SE end of Fergusson island, inland from Sebutuia Bay. The volcano consists of a composite cone with a summit crater. The area shows strong thermal activity. Oiau is located on the SE end of Fergusson island, on a peninsula between Kedidia Bay and Numanuma Bay. The volcano consists of a composite cone with a summit crater. There is a recent looking lava flow in the crater.
